Desmond Doss was an American soldier who became famous for his actions during World War II, particularly during the Battle of Okinawa in 1945. When he refused to carry or use a weapon because of his religious beliefs as a Seventh-day Adventist. Despite this, he still wanted to serve his country and enlisted as a medic, with the goal of saving lives rather than taking them.

Doss’s bravery and dedication became legendary when, during the brutal battle of Okinawa, he saved 75 men, including many of his fellow soldiers, without ever firing a shot. One of the most famous moments of his heroism occurred when he single-handedly rescued wounded soldiers from the battlefield while under heavy enemy fire, lowering them down a cliff one by one.
