In 1945, during the brutal Battle of Okinawa, one American soldier refused to carry a weapon. His name was Desmond Doss. Many of his fellow soldiers mocked him because he would not fire a gun. But when the fighting on Hacksaw Ridge turned into chaos and dozens of wounded men were left behind, Doss did something unbelievable. One by one, he dragged injured soldiers to the edge of the cliff and lowered them to safety with a rope. Each time he finished, he whispered the same prayer: “Please Lord, help me get one more.” By the end of the night, he had rescued about seventy-five men and became the first conscientious objector to receive the Medal of Honor
