The economic impact of EU sanctions on Russia and the European economy

Since Moscow’s illegal and unjustified invasion of Ukraine, on 24 February 2022, the EU has adopted unprecedentedly tough sanctions against Russia, in cooperation with the US, Canada, the UK and other G7 countries and the European Free Trade Area (EFTA) members.

Eight months after the adoption of the first sanctions, Parliament’s economic and monetary affairs committee has invited experts to assess the economic impact these measures are having on Russia and the EU’s economy.

The speakers are:

– Dmytro Natalukha, chair of the Ukrainian Parliament’s economic development committee
– Benjamin Moll, professor of macroeconomics, London School of Economics
– Maíra Martini, research and policy expert, Transparency International
– Hannes Swoboda, president of the Vienna Institute for International Economic Studies
– Tymofiy Mylovanov, director of the Kyiv School of Economics
