Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman named Saudi Arabia’s new Prime Minister

사우디 국왕, 빈 살만 왕세자 총리로 임명

Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Salman, often referred to as MBS, has been appointed as the country’s new prime minister.
This follows a Cabinet reshuffle by King Salman, made public on Tuesday, in which the younger brother of MBS, Prince Khalid bin Salman, was also made defense minister.
Mohammed bin Salman was already acting as the kingdom’s de facto ruler, as his father, the 86-year-old king, has been in and out of hospital recently.
Since taking control of the day-to-day running of Saudi Arabia, the Crown Prince has allowed women to drive, moved to diversify the economy away from oil dependence, and reined in religious clerics’ power.
But his changes have also seen journalists and activists arrested.
And his reputation was damaged by the 2018 killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi at the Saudi Arabian consulate in Istanbul.
