Sanctions and the Russian Economy

Please join the Europe, Russia, and Eurasia Program for a fascinating discussion on the current state and future of the Russian economy under international sanctions.

Following Russia’s February 2022 invasion of Ukraine, The US, EU, and their partners imposed severe sanctions on the Russian economy. Sanctions of this scale and scope are unprecedented in recent history, and have major potential implications not just for the course of the war in Ukraine, but also for Russia’s broader geopolitical position.

We are excited to host a wide-ranging conversation on this topic moderated by Max Bergmann, and featuring CSIS experts Dr. Maria Snegovaya and Ben Cahill. Additionally, we will be joined by Dr. Sergey Aleksashenko, a Russian economist and Member of the Board of the Boris Nemtsov Foundation for Freedom, and the Board of the Free Russia Foundation.

Please register for this online-only event to watch our livestream on Thursday, January 19th from 10:00-11:00 AM.

This event is made possible through the generous support of the Carnegie Corporation of New York.
