Professor Patel is a distinguished professor of Sociology at the Savitribai Phule Pune University and has written extensively on Urban Sociology, Social Movements and Indigenous Sociology. She has also edited the Oxford India Reader on Urban Sociology and is the editor of the Routledge book series 'Cities and the Urban Imperative'. She has also published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals and is an eminent scholar and sociologist in India.
