Public protector serves Gordhan with section 7(9) notice

Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane has served the Minister of Public Enterprises Pravin Gordhan with a Section 7(9) notice in terms of the Public Protector Act. According to the Act, if it appears that that any person being investigated is implicated, and that such implication may be to the detriment of that person or that an adverse finding may result, the Public Protector shall afford such a person an opportunity to respond. The notice follows a complaint submitted to the Public Protector by EFF’s Deputy President Floyd Shivambu.
Shivambu is of the opinion that Gordhan lied to parliament when he said he never met with the Gupta family members. The complaint also asks the Public Protector to investigator the establishment of the so-called Rogue Unit at SARS. The Public Protectors spokesperson Oupa Segalwe says the minister has ten working days to respond.
