Insecurity In Nigeria: How South West Governors Are Tackling Herders-Farmers Conflict

The conflict between farmers and herders is part of Nigeria’s chequered history.

Before now, insecurity was more pronounced in northern Nigeria.

In recent times, reports of kidnapping, armed robbery, and other violent crimes have made headlines in the country.

Last week, Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu issued a seven-day quit notice to unregistered herders in the state’s forest reserve. While many were still taking that in, communities in Ibarapa local government area of Oyo State-backed a rights activist to evict a Fulani leader.

Gist Nigeria takes a look at both sides of the divide against the background of social media narratives, providing clarifications on how the government is tackling the herders /farmers conflict in the southwest.
