This baby gorilla needed life-saving surgery. A pregnant gorilla at Fort Worth Zoo called Sekani needed an emergency C-section because she developed preeclampsia, which is what humans can also get. Luckily, her baby, Jameela, was successfully delivered. Unfortunately, mama gorilla had no interest in caring for her baby afterwards. They believe this happened because the natural birth process didn’t happen and so the hormones associated with birth didn’t release and the connection didn’t happen. So another mother gorilla was trained to be a surrogate mother to the baby gorilla. How cute is that? It’s fascinating how similar it is to a human baby.
