Gonzalo Higuain join Chelsea fans in sarcastically applauding Sissoko's booking vs Tottenham Hotspur

Chelsea failed in their attempts to complete a deal to sign Gonzalo Higuain in time for the Argentine striker to play against Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday. The Blues didn’t register Higuain by 12pm on Wednesday, meaning he had to watch on from the stands. It didn’t matter though, with Chelsea reaching the final of the Carabao Cup following a penalty shootout win over their London rivals. Higuain was introduced to the crowd at Stamford Bridge before kick-off, saying: “I am very happy to be here. See you Sunday.Thank you Chelsea.” The 31-year-old, who trained at Cobham on Thursday, could make his debut for the club against Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday. With Alvaro Morata closing in on a move to Atletico Madrid and Olivier Giroud only managing five goals this season, Chelsea are hoping that Higuain hits the ground running. And he’s already made an impact with the club’s supporters thanks to his actions during the win against Spurs. Goal’s Chelsea correspondent Nizaar Kinsella, in attendance, says Higuain joined in with the home crowd when they sarcastically clapped as referee Martin Atkinson finally showed a yellow card to a Tottenham player, booking Moussa Sissoko in the 73rd minute. Higuain clearly doesn’t want to waste any time in earning the support of the Chelsea faithful. Based on the reaction from supporters, he’s already getting there.“Am getting his jersey by the time the Prem comes back 👏😂,” tweeted @mus_ttafah. It’s all well and good showing support from the bench. What will really endear Higuain to the fans is if he scores regularly. Chelsea find themselves in a battle for the top four having lost their way somewhat in recent weeks. They’ve lacked a serious threat in front of goal – Giroud and Morata have combined for just 14 goals between them – but there is a hope that Higuain, who scored 36 goals in 35 Serie A games under Sarri at Napoli in the 2015-16 season, can deliver the goods during his loan spell.
