Global National: June 6, 2020 | Memorial held near George Floyd's birthplace as protests continue

In cities across Canada, the U.S. and globally, protests against systemic racism and police brutality continued on Saturday. Sean O’Shea and Farah Nasser take a look at the peaceful demonstrations that took place in Toronto and several other Ontario cities.

The demonstrations came as George Floyd, whose death sparked the worldwide protests after he died while in police custody on Memorial Day, was honoured in a memorial service in his birthplace of North Carolina where hundreds turned out to remember him.

Tens of thousands of people gathered in Washington, D.C., with millions more marching through cities across the cU.S., undeterred by past usage of tear gas and rubber bullets. Jennifer Johnson looks at what measures cities across the country are now taking to reform their law enforcement agencies.
Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation Chief Allan Adam, is alleging he was the victim of police abuse and racism in Alberta. David Akin reports that while the RCMP claim officers did nothing wrong, Adam is calling for a federal investigation.

In the U.K., more than 40,000 deaths have been linked to COVID-19, but with funerals and wakes unable to be held due to restrictions, Crystal Goomansingh takes a look at the new and creative ways communities are mourning those who died.
