The first images of Russia's doomed missile cruiser Moskva have emerged – showing the vessel moments before it sank.

The images show smoke pluming from President Vladimir Putin's Black Sea Fleet flagship, from what appears to be a massive internal fire.

Ukraine claimed it struck the Moskva with two cruise missiles on Thursday morning.

Russian state media confirmed an ammunition explosion occurred aboard the warship and after investigations concluded it foundered in a storm.
