Democrats and Republicans reacted on Thursday to the House of Representatives vote on a resolution to lay out ground rules on the impeachment inquiry of President Donald Trump.

Democrats called the vote a "solemn day" for the country and stressed during open hearings both parties would get "equal opportunity" to question witnesses.

Republicans criticized the vote, saying Democrats were using a "Soviet-style" process for the inquiry, and questioned the motives behind the probe.
