China Covid Protests: Down with the Chinese Communist Party, down with Xi Jinping, a crowd in Shanghai shouted as protests against zero-Covid policy spread to multiple cities amid a record number of Covid cases in the country. Residents in these cities are holding blank sheets of paper and flowers to hold silent protests against the government.

The widespread civil unrest started after a deadly fire at a high-rise building in Urumqi, capital of the Xinjiang region, killed 10. Frustration mounted as purported videos of the incident led to accusations that lockdown hampered rescue efforts. Urumqi officials held a news conference to deny the allegations but to no avail.
