Chief Arowolo is desperate for a male child whom he feels safe to leave his vast legacy for. His female children, to him, would grow up and take on their husband’s name and would only be useful in the kitchen and therefore incapable of handling his properties. He learns the hard way that gender is not a yardstick to measure the capabilities of a person.
