They called him a coward. He became the bravest man on the battlefield. 🎖️
May 1945, Battle of Okinawa: US Army medic Desmond Doss refused to carry a weapon because of his religious beliefs. Soldiers mocked him. Officers tried to discharge him. Everyone said he’d get them all killed.
Then came Hacksaw Ridge.
His unit attacked a 400-foot cliff. Japanese forces slaughtered them. Americans retreated. But Doss stayed behind – ALONE.
Under constant enemy fire, he dragged wounded soldiers to the cliff edge and lowered them down with rope. One by one. For 12 HOURS.
He saved 75 men. Got shot 4 times. Hit by grenades. Kept going. When stretcher bearers came for him, he gave up his spot for another wounded soldier. He crawled 300 yards to safety with a broken arm.
Desmond Doss became the first conscientious objector to receive the Medal of Honor.
The “coward” became the bravest man on the battlefield. True heroism isn’t about weapons – it’s about courage. 💪
