Top Story: EC Chair Jean Mensa Faces Contempt Over Kpandai Rerun Delay

Tonight on Top Story with Samuel Kojo Brace on Joy 99.7 FM:

Electoral Commission Chair Jean Mensa is facing a contempt application filed at the Tamale High Court by lawyers for the NDC’s Kpandai parliamentary candidate, Daniel Nsala Wakpal.

This follows the court’s November 24 ruling, which annulled the election of NPP MP Matthew Nyindam and ordered the Electoral Commission to conduct a rerun within 30 days.
Despite being served the order on November 25, the EC has reportedly taken no steps toward organizing the fresh election.

Wakpal’s legal team argues that the EC’s inaction shows “a clear unwillingness and lack of intention” to comply with the court’s directive—conduct they say amounts to interference with the administration of justice.

Meanwhile, Matthew Nyindam has challenged the High Court ruling at the Supreme Court, arguing that the petition was filed outside the required 21-day legal window.
But Wakpal’s lawyers insist that the EC must still comply with the current court order.

We also hear from a member of the NDC candidate’s legal team, Eugene Awity, who says the Commission has shown no readiness to carry out the rerun.

Stay tuned for detailed analysis and live updates.
