Desmond Doss was a U.S. Army medic in World War II who refused to carry a weapon because of his faith. During the Battle of Okinawa, he stayed behind on Hacksaw Ridge to save 75 wounded soldiers, lowering them to safety one by one. He became the first conscientious objector to receive the Medal of Honor.
