This week’s Leading With IMPACT video tip: Managing an Underperforming Employee
Transcript:
Supervising an underperforming employee can be stressful, and many managers are uncomfortable addressing performance issues. But if they aren’t addressed, performance issues will only get worse.
Don’t ignore the problem! Instead, consider what’s causing the employee to fail.
• Does the employee lack the skills to do the job?
• Do they understand the expectations of the job?
Talk to your employee. Let them how what you see and how their performance is affecting others on the team. Let them know you want to help by making a plan and coaching them to improvement.
• If the employee makes positive changes, make sure you recognize and praise their efforts.
• If things don’t get better, explain the consequences, including disciplinary actions.
