Australia Holds Protest Against George Floyd’s Death

Demonstrators gathered in the west coast city of Perth, carrying banners and chanting “Black Lives Matter” in protest over the death in Minnesota of George Floyd.

The event was used to highlight the issue of racial injustice in Australia.

“There’s over 400-plus indigenous deaths in custody that are not being investigated” said organizer, Tanesha Bennell. “Everyone keeps saying, ‘Oh Australia is so different,’ but it’s not really.”

It follows days of escalating violence in the U.S. over George Floyd’s death.
